JUNE SESSION TO FEATURE CORNET MASTER MIKE DAVIS!

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT! JUNE PSTJS SESSION TO FEATURE CORNET MASTER MIKE DAVIS!

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT! JUNE PSTJS SESSION TO FEATURE CORNET MASTER MIKE DAVIS!

We are excited to announce that the Puget Sound Traditional Jazz Society is presenting New York-based cornet virtuoso Mike Davis and his New Wonders jazz band (West Coast version) in a perfor-mance for dancers and listeners alike at our reg-ularly scheduled gather-ing Sunday, June 21.

This will be a program you don’t want to miss, so be sure to mark the date on your calendars. Davis is a professional cornetist and trombonist who was a member of the acclaimed Roosevelt High School Jazz Band in Seattle during the break-out years (2005–2009), when it secured two national championships and two second places at the Essentially Ellington band competition at Lincoln Center. After graduating in 2009, he moved to New York City to attend the Manhattan School of Music, where he further specialized in jazz trumpet.

Mike Davis and the New Wonders

Today, Mike is a leading figure in New York City’s traditional jazz revival, specializing in a “hot jazz” style that meticulously recreates the sound and energy of the 1920s. He appears regularly as the leader of the New Wonders and as a guest in bands led by Dandy Wellington, Emily Asher, Glenn Crytzer, Terry Waldo, Baby Soda, Dan Levinson, Vince Giordano, and in many other traditional-jazz and swing bands.

This is a special undertaking, and all PSTJS members, their friends, and the general public are urged to attend. This is the second year we’ve invited a non-local “all-star” (remember Colin Hancock at the Swedish Club a year ago?), and we need your support to do this on an annual basis. More information about Mike and his band will be made available in upcoming Jazz Soundings. Stay tuned!
