Well, another terrific program was thoroughly enjoyed by the attendees at the December meeting. The Yeti Chasers played some wonderful music by some really talented musicians. It is such a pleasure to enjoy the skills displayed by these musicians. Not one, but two fabulous guitars, two multi-instrument front-line players, superb acoustic base, and the dean of traditional jazz pianists. Who could ask for anything more? Part of their secret sauce is how well they listened to each other, and how much they appreciated the skill of every other player—really good stuff, and all very much enjoyed.
Speaking of appreciation, please join me in thanking the new members of your board of trustees, all elected to help guide the organization for the next year. Rebecca Kerr, David Gilbert, and David Wall will join current board members in bringing enthusiasm, knowledge, and ideas to support the continuation and growth of this terrific organization. We know that there are a lot of people in the community who would love to enjoy our programs, if only they knew about them.
To that end, I am thrilled to report that the new website, still at pstjs.org, is now active, and will be continually edited as necessary to bring the latest news of not only our organization, but also other news of jazz performances in the community. It will also allow access to years of past Jazz Soundings, in addition to presenting each month’s new issue. The plan is to gradually transition to providing Jazz Soundings electronically on the website and via email, in part to reach a wider audience, and in part to save the expense of printing and mailing each issue. Additionally, it will allow money transactions to happen, opening the door to allow members new and old to pay for memberships and even pay for entrance to our Sunday sessions either on the website or using a card at the door. As you know, cash ain’t what it used to be.
Speaking of ain‘t, the Ain’t No Heaven Seven with Ron Rustad on vocals will be with us on January 18. We will have Steve Wright on trumpet and reeds, and Andy Hall on trombone and maybe a reed or two. Lots of multi-instrument talent with those two, and it should be a lot of fun. Come and bring your dancing shoes, and let’s make it a fun day. See you then!
