holotradband


Cornetist Dave Holo has fronted two bands playing weekly one-nighters at the New Orleans Cafe in Pioneer Square for a couple of decades or so. The group which has played there Tuesday nights (seemingly forever) is called “holotradband,” a sextet of stellar Northwest veteran players, all much-appreciated by a loyal fandom.

The front-line includes Holo, plus trombonist-vocalist Dave Loomis, and reed-player Bruce Hall. The talented rhythm section is anchored by drummer Mike Daugherty along with guitarist Lance Haslund, bassist Jeff Norwood and pianist Alex Guilbert.

Holo's combo features early-day classic jazz, as the name holotradband implies, but also delves strongly into the the style of small groups that inhabited New York's 52nd Street jazz scene in the pre- and post-World War Two era – in other words “swing
