Bob Jackson's Thursday Night Band

The seven-man roster of “Bob Jackson's Thursday Night Band” reads like a Northwest all-star jazz band. Trumpeter Jackson has been a lead performer in the genre for nearly 50 years, and his sidemen closely match that long tenure. The name comes from thegroup's once-a-month playdate at Pioneer Square's New Orleans Restaurant.

British Columbia's Jim Armstrong augments the usual front line on trombone, and the five others are all Puget Sounders. Steve Wright is the reed-player; Ray Skjelbred the pianist; Jake Powel adds his banjo & guitar talents; Dave Brown is on string bass and Mike Daugherty (the youngster of the group) is on drums.

All have played with well-regarded jazz combos hereabouts for decades. Jackson promises a wide spectrum of classic jazz styles dating to all eras in the 20th century.

The concert will be the last presented by the jazz organization before its customary two-month summer “dark period.” The series resumes in September with Bob Schulz' Frisco
Jazz Band on the Ballard Elks bandstand.
